HERACLES

Heracles was a hero, a demigod who slayd monsters to defend the world. His job literally was to defend his country from monsters like lions, bulls, dirty stables, and even defending the gates of Olympus from monsters. Using his superhuman strength, Heracles' role in mythology was the highest mortal power possible. Heracles essentially served as the defender of mankind from evildoers.

 

After his death, Heracles' divine side - as the son of Zeus, Heracles was part god - ascended to Olympus as a full fledged god. In fact, while half of Heracles becamea god, the other half became a dead spirit. This is called the apotheosis, or turning-into-a-god, of Heracles. When a god, Heracles married the goddess - and Heracles' own cousin - Hebe, goddess of youth, and daughter of Zeus and Hera.
